Super Junior’s Heechul Says Sexy Competition in K-Pop is Unavoidable

Super Junior’s Heechul spoke up about the recent trend of sexy concepts among girls groups.

During January 23’s episode of JTBC’s Ssulzun, the Super Junior member claimed, “For celebrities who have to earn the love of the public, competition with a sexy concept is unavoidable.”

Kim Gura said about Girls’ Day’s Something, “They spend more time lying on the floor than standing up,” and Kang Yong Suk added, “They open up the skirt from the side. It’s embarrassing to do their dance moves.”

Heechul, upon hearing their comments, spoke up by saying, “The cute concepts are not popular anymore. I’m an entertainer too, but entertainers are like products. They have to be liked by the consumers.”

Kim Gura agreed by saying, “Cuteness is taken over by the children on MBC’s Dad! Where Are We Going? or Choo Sarang. The trend in K-Pop has changed to include stronger beats, and cuteness is not competitive anymore.”

Heechul continued to make his point saying, “AOA was a band group before. They weren’t popular back then. But they gained popularity when they came back with sexy concept with the song Confused. Girls’ Day also competed with cute concept in the beginning, but their popularity increased when they presented sexy dance through Expectation. Agencies cannot give up on the sexy concept, because it has a higher chance of success.”
